MLK Day of Service..Success!

The Office for Community & Civic Engagement is proud to report that it hosted its 3rd annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 17, 2011.  The day featured 122 volunteers serving for a combined total of 488 hours of service, making it the largest MLK Day of Service to date. The day began at UNCP with an opening ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the MLK Federal Holiday.  Following the ceremony, volunteers were sent to 11 service sites throughout Robeson & Hoke counties.  The service sites included the following:

  • Borderbelt Aids Resource Team
  • Boys & Girls Club
  • Church & Community Center
  • ComForcare Senior Services
  • Creative Works
  • First United Methodist Church
  • The Haven No-Kill Shelter
  • Odum Home
  • Pleasant Grove Methodist Church
  • River Way
  • Roadside Cleanup

The UNCP MLK Day of Service was part of the National MLK Day of Service.  The UNCP AmeriCorps VISTA, Derald Dryman, coordinated the event.
