2011 UNCP Day of Service

The Office for Community & Civic Engagement hosted its 4th annual UNCP Day of Service on Saturday, March 26, 2011.  The day featured over 130 volunteers serving for a combined total of 528 hours of service.  Volunteers completed service activities including farm work, outdoor beautification, creating flyers, and washing fire trucks.  The service sites included the following:

  • Border Belt Aids Resource Team
  • Methodist Home for Children
  • American Indian Mothers Farm
  • Robeson County Church & Community Center
  • Pembroke Care & Rehab Center
  • Pembroke Housing Authority
  • The Healing Lodge
  • Sacred Pathways
  • Concerned Citizens for the Rehab of the Homeless
  • The Haven No-Kill Shelter
  • Wesley Pines Retirement Home
  • Gold Living Retirement Home
  • Pembroke Rural Fire Department
  • Roadside Cleanup

The 2011 Day of Service was sponsored by Mighty J’s Sports Restaurant.  UNCP AmeriCorps VISTA, Derald Dryman, coordinated the event.

We provide opportunities for college students to recognize their civic potential and take initiative to develop it. Students enrich and enhance their education experience through active, engaged service.
